Any reason why I have to first open search field in research?

Is there any reason why I have to first click at (#1) in order to open search box (#2) so I can search?

So that pressing E or T closes the window instead of starting a search.

No.

If I'm not mistaken, that input isn't active even now after opening it. And you still have to click into it in order to write. :!: And it wouldn't be a problem to make input inactive.

It definitely focuses the text box here whether you click the button or press Ctrl-F.

Why just clicking on the place with the text field doesn't focuses the cursor to?

Suggestion: Make search field in research GUI visible and non-focussed by default.
