Factorio performance question regarding g-sync / freesync

Apologies if this is the wrong section...
I've been in the market for a g-sync / freesync monitor (and supporting video card) and I'd like to know if they play nice with Factorio.
When I say "play nice", I mean:
If Factorio is running at 60UPS, can the monitor run at 60FPS?
If Factorio runs below 60UPS, will the monitor match its update rate?
I'm asking because I have seen a number of older issues with g-sync (https://www.reddit.com/r/factorio/comme ... _factorio/, viewtopic.php?t=17245) A few people have said that enabling g-sync makes Factorio run between 20-24FPS. Around 0.15, Kovarex said that "Factorio doesn't support G sync currently", but I can't find anything indicating that changed...
I guess I'm just wondering if anybody has had success in getting a g-sync/freesync monitor to work with Factorio recently. Have you been getting your FPS to match UPS without tearing or v-sync stuttering?
