Automatic updater doesn't work and can't dl latest

I am on 17.1 but can't update to any newer version. I have looked around the forums and help and faqs but no joy.
Yes the automatic update box is checked. Even when i go to Factorio.com, the option to download the latest version doesn't exist.

I can confirm this for 0.17.22 to 0.17.23 at least. Edit, the full download is only ~500MB as opposed to ~1.1GB on the main site as well.

Do you have experimental updates enabled?
Edit: scratch that, I'm blind, see post about updater problems in early versions below.

There was a problem with the updater with the early version of 0.17 x - just load the full experimental game again from WUBE's website and your good to go

I have tried to download it again. Do I need to uninstall my original and reinstall the new version?
