[wheybags] Getting stuck in the Tutorial

I was asked to get stuck in the campaign so I did. After the Biters attacked my base and I ran to the lake and looted everything I immediately ran back to the biters with all of my equipment on me and died meaning that I was unable to retrieve it and because I can't craft Iron gear wheels/electronic circuits/wire I end up completely stuck after continuing.
