It would be neat if when I change research, it shows my current progression on each research in the list.

TL;DR

The research dialog does give no indication that something is already partially researched until research for the technology is started again.

What ?

When selecting a technology in the research dialog the cost and effects are shown in the left middle box. But even tough a tech has been partially researched the cost is still shown for the full amount. The required science packs could be shown with only the remaining amount, e.g. "x 250/300"

Secondly the icons for technologies could have a progress bar showing the progress made for the technologoy so far.

Why ?

The lack of showing the saved progress might lead users to assume progress has been lost (see previous suggestion about "Cancel" button too). For me it makes it harder to find paused research or to judge how expensive a technology still is. It might be 99% done and only need one more science pack but the cost is listed as 1000. This gives a false impression of the remaining cost.

TL;DR

Display already performed research when reselecting a research topic.

What ?

I started to research item A. Once its research is half way done (at 50%), I select a different research topic and let it finish.
When I select the previous item A, it should show me that research it already at 50% and offer "Continue research".
Instead the UI tells me nothing about progress but offers "Start research". Once I click that, progress immediately jumps to 50% and research continues.

Why ?

"Start research" seems nearly like a bug, when I indeed "Continue research".
I just like to know and it seems to belong into the info screen.
The information will help me to prioritize according to "shortest job first".

While the technology is being researched, a progress display is shown.

When that research is cancelled there is no indication that you are partially complete for that tech.

I would suggest either coloring the selection box in the same way you would color the "in progress tech box" and/or revising the number of science packs that are left to complete the research.

I agree, visual feedback is important to make it clear that the progression is not lost.

+1, it's been news to me that it isn't. I've often wished I could cancel research on something to crank out something else real quick, and apparently I can, I just didn't know I could.

And a "pause" icon could be better than the current cross.

Something like this :

And hey why not a tooltip?

"Pause this research so you can research something else. When you requeue this research, it will start where you left off."

I have multiple issues with the tech tree window... This is one of them!

This is how Engine research shows in game. It has actually been researched roughly 5% after i decided to do inserter research first. But game isn't showing the progress that is already been made and that would be useful info.

If I switch technologies that I am researching (because I ran out of a science pack I needed, say) there isn't any way to tell whether or not one of them is partially researched until I select it and hit "Start Research". Perhaps the icons could include a progress bar or something, or a mouse over could indicate progress?

The saved progress is supposed to be shown but it was broken with the technology GUI re-write. So, this is actually a bug report

I reported it internally a few weeks ago but I guess it still hasn't been fixed?
