Posted this on reddit a bit ago, remembered there is a forum for this type of thing. I've also had a chance to stability test it since then, and it has been sitting at 65.9 average for the past 10 hours I played on this map.
There's a lot of description in the imgur, but the TL;DR is that I'm making an intentionally al dente map with trains (but no power poles) connecting outposts and small, self contained bases of various sizes and designs, then I optimize them to an unsurpassable bottleneck. In this case, the bottleneck is one yellow science assembler that can't do more than 65.93SPM. It uses 1-3 iron/copper ore trains, 1-1 coal, stone, water, oil trains, and since there are no long distance power poles, 0-6-2 steam trains. Did you know that you can put the locomotive at the back of the train? It makes stations after a curve a lot easier!
