TL;DR
8 copper wire connection points per pole would allow better connections in grid-like designs.

What ?
Could the current limit of 5 copper wire connection per pole be increased to a slightly higher number?

The current limit is 5 copper wire connections per poles. viewtopic.php?f=29&t=62121

This current limit however makes designing a standardized power layout very difficult. 4 of those connections must be allocated to power poles in the north, south, east and west. This leaves exactly 1 connection available to provide to poles supplying entities.

The attachment shows a grid of big power poles as part of rail and defense network. The pole need to also connect to medium poles to supply the laser defenses. Note, the missing connection the left most roboport to the next right big power pole.

I would suggest a more useful number of connections would be approximately 8.

Why ?
I believe this would be appreciated by those that prefer more orderly factory designs.

Although I myself have never encountered the problem of not being able to connect enough wires, I am in favor of your suggestion.

And as option only 3 wires, sounds pretty nice for new challenges.

Yeah, when building in grids, you get your nice lovely + cabled pole, then you have to put another power pole next to it just as a wire point multiplier, because otherwise you can only take 1 extra wire off it.

Yes, I find it slightly annoying too...
