I'm using colored lamps next to gates to indicate when a train is about to pass through (they turn red). The problem is it seems that colored lamps have such low intensity compared to lamps that aren't circuit controlled. I tried increasing the signal amount from 1 to 10000 but it made no difference. Is there any way to make them brighter?

No, aside from using more of them. I'm 99% sure there's performance reasons for this.
