I have strange issue with game crashing and I figured how exactly to reproduce it (on my system).
When I start the game everything works fine, making new world, loading some save, or exiting the game, but if I save progress game crashes as soon as I want to load that or some other save, or If I want to exit the game. (see screenshot).

So to clarify again, everything works normal until I save the game. Then loading some save or exiting the game makes it to crash.
Same goes with a generation of a new world. It works fine (generating, exiting), but if I generate new world, save that world, then try to exit the game or just try to load some save, it will crash.
The exact moment when game stops responding (after saving my game for 1st time this session!) is after I pick some save to load, and then press the load button. Or, if I got to menu (esc), and press quit game. It will freeze and after a while, or after a couple of clicks the usual "program is not responding" window pops up.

In %appdata%/factorio/mods I had 2 .json files which I deleted in my attempt to fix the issue. Now mods folder is empty.
Also tried to reinstalled the game twice, first time just reinstall to the same location, 2nd time install on my C drive. No luck.
My log file is showing error loading some .json files but I don't think that's the root cause of my issue cause this started to happen even when I had those 2 json files there.
I've uploaded both screenshot of the crash (you won't find anything particularly useful there), and my log file.
I did not upload my save because it's not save file issue. I can if you demand.
I'm not sure when this started to happen, did not have this issue on 0.15.37 and 0.16.2. and .3. After that didn't play until now when the actual version is .36

Thanks for the report. Can you reproduce the crash and when in the crashed state (when the message is shown) open task manager, select the factorio process and click "create dump".

Once that finishes, zip and upload it on something like google drive/dropbox/one drive?

Sure thing! From 5GB to 600mb, rared. Good enough.

Any chance you have MalwareBytes installed?

It's frozen trying to remove the currently-playing files from the temporary folder location.

I don’t. Only NOD32.

EDIT: Do you think that some software on my laptop is interfering with game?
I had Malwarebytes some time ago, now I have only Nod32 Internet Security and Advanced SystemCare.

I just mentioned it because I found today that the latest version of MalwareBytes was causing issues for me when I would try to move files around saying they where open in another program.

Can you try disabling NOD32 and see if it still happens?

Yeah, I'll let you know in about 6-7h when I get back from work.

I tried, no luck.

Any other suggestion? It's driving me crazy. I have to restart the game every time I want to load previous save -.-.
Tried to delete files and folders in Temp folder, they repopulated but issue is still there.
No idea what else can I do on my part.

Dear Lord, I figured it out!

It was Acronis Active Protection service. (anti ransomware.exe in task manager)
I saw that in task manager and was like, what is this, why is this here..then I realized I have Acronis True Image which is doing my weekly backup and I forgot to turn off Active protection.
Then I was like, hmm lets try Factorio loading thingy now, maybe this was the problem. AND IT WAS!
