When placing an inserter before a curved station (on the left on the picture) the "wagon position hint box" is not shown.

I don't know if it was intentional or not (from the code it looks to me like it was), but I'd keep it that way, because you are shooting yourself into a foot. Wagons won't be aligned to tiles after the curve, so you might not get full 7 inserters per wagon side to work, and also pumps won't connect to fluid wagons.

It's a 3 Loco Station, and the wagons align just fine, like the station overlay suggests. Also for stations and signals the overlay does show, just not for inserters.
