I just want to share with idea:
Rivers. On rivers you can build electric DAMs which provide clean energy (energy output based on size of lake maybe?).

This is a great idea!
Just a warning though, when I brought this up before, there was many a rage!
Still, give it your best shot!
-My Attempt-
The basic ideas that we covered were:

• *3D-isation of the game to implement this
  *River animations
  *General rage
  *Open TTD Style map design overhaul
  *Boats?
  *Development complications.

This is a good idea, but the community hates it.
Apparently it could be a thing for Factorio 2

hm, water on cliffs to make dam-able waterfalls could be an interesting way how to make cliffs more useful

I have no bloody idea of programming etc... but since we have cliffs I think we won't need big graphic update...
But if we will have rivers, then bridges must be developed...

I just imagine making big dam (lot of concrete and engines per block(?) of dam) and got tons of *free and clean* energy

I think adding hydro power to the game could be a good thing. I think with modding one can make special "cliff pieces" with the rocky graphics replaced with animated water like a water fall. Have script determine that equal size river/water be placed for some tiles before and after such cliffs. Have the size of these areas be randomised too... Bigger waterfall + river = higher potential electric output. Factorio guy can then build some concrete structure over such cliffs, these structures have researchable and upgradable electrical generators inside..

Rough idea...Add pipes and stuff...
