1. I have a chest with 400 copper plates.
2. my inventory contains 100 copper plates and has a single free slot (all other slots are occupied)
3. I try to get all 400 copper plates from chest - I got only 100 (correct!)
4. they appears in the only free slot, not adjacent to other copper plates.
5. if I take them from inventory and release them (Q key) inventory is correctly sorted.

edit: I found it when playing in sandbox (god) mode but I was unable to reproduce it in "normal" mode.

Hello, I tried to reproduce it, but it worked correctly for me.

I tried in both character (normal game) and the godview game (sandbox), and it always got sorted correctly.

Don't you have savegame before it happens?

simply try to mine the chest with copper plates - mining will fail because inventory is almost full. have a look how in inventory copper plates are placed in last slot, not sorted.

Aaaaah, you didn't say you get the copper by trying to mine the chest
