How does the train pathfinder work in 0.15.40?

Hi,
I have 140 trains in my factory right now and I suffer from the fact that the pathfinder is not intelligent. I have several problems causing massive stop-go traffic and even complete jams when "what are you fucking doing here?!?!?!"-trains enter a station where they are not supposed to go. This happens not often, maybe once every 30 minutes. Still it causes a complete jam. It is a matter of 1-2 minutes until 100 trains are jammed all around the base if THAT happens.
I dont want to post 100 images of all of my problems, I just want to ask if there is a rule-set where I can read how the pathfinder works in the most recent 0.15 version, so I can implement dirty work-arounds to compensate for the lack of intelligence. To fix that a metal train enters an acid station where a idle train is waiting forever (because it has no job) might be impossible, if I dont want to just pick up the idling acid train.
