In russian keyboard 'ё' is mapped to '~'(tilde) key by default.
If i write in russian, pressing 'ё' key will close chat window. This makes many russians angry.
I propose this behaviors:
1. If russian keymap and chat window open - write 'ё' char
2. If russian keymap and chat window closed - open chat window.

This is why we have control settings. You can just map it to different key.

To what key?
My keyboard is "60% keyboard". Like this: https://i.imgur.com/OPoPcC2.jpg

I'm sure the two keys on "Enter"s left are free from bindings.

Ok, man, thats my keyboard(see attach)
Red button - ё.
Button between enter and backspace - escape(i did not find 'esc' button of this size)
Every button has a russian char mapping, except a button near right shit with '? /' chars, its responsible for '.,' chars in russian layout.
Perhaps, i can bind fn1/fn2/super keys, but they are catched by xorg for some hotkeys.

Oh. That's a really small keyboard I know that size is supposed not to matter, but I can really not be of any help

Can it send function keys? You can bind chat to say F1. Alternatively you could change the binding for switch weapon to something else, and you tab for chat.

I made some tricks with xmodmap and now i can open chat using fn2+esc. God bless linux.
(fn1+esc key(remember, esc key is between enter and backspace) will print '\' and fn1+shift+esc will print '|')
