What?

Like in Firefox (and probably other browsers): If the search box is already focused then mark/select all it's content when ctrl-f is pressed a second time.

Whaat?

Behavior of the search box should be as following:

1. Press "e" -> open inventory, search box is unfocused.
2. Press "ctrl+f" -> focus search box, typing goes into search box
3. (new) Press "ctrl+f" again -> text in search box is marked, typing more text replaces old search term and starts a new search.

Why

When all content is marked the next letter typed will replace the previous search-term allowing to easily search several items in quick succession.

I never knew this was a thing (outside of Factorio). I second this.
