I think it would be cool if underground pipes would peak out of the ground. The ground would still be flat, but the dirt would be slightly removed and the pipe raised up to expose it. This would make it easier to see where a pipe was going without having to hover over the ends of it. Things could still be built ontop as usual. Although it could look weird when two underground pipes intersect, but maybe there could be special graphics for that! (and perhaps this could be extended to underground belts as well to have a transparent ceiling? (but again, not sure how belt braiding or pipes would look)

Alternatively, (and maybe this is better), little signs would be placed on the underground sections with the icon of the liquid it contains.


Would be one of those quality of life improvements and could be a subtle aesthetics nicety!
