[15.35] Weird item separation with stack inserters

Looking at one the train unloading stations I spotted a strange separation between the items on the right belt (see screenshot compression2.png). I would have expected that there is no gap at the arrow (between items 3 and 4).

Reproduction seems possible by building the setup of screenshot compression1.png without the top power pole. After filling both chests with sufficient items (i.e. a full stack) add the pole to start the contraption. Doing it the other order (first power, then the items) does not seem to reproduce the effect and even with this order it sometimes does not reproduce it, or reproduces it at different location in the burst of items (see the difference between the two screenshots).

[Edit] P.S. As you might have suspected from the research/counting the number of items. This is with fully upgraded inserters.

This behaviour is most likely not in 0.16, and this won't be fixed for 0.15, so i will move to not a bug

I _like_ that sideloading can't perfectly compress a lane. Inserters and sideloading jostle the items a bit, if you want perfect compression supply the gap-filling items in a splitter that places each item.

It will if you do it right.

i think the arrows are pointed at the wrong gap. ;)

No. There's slightly more space between two items on the right there.

yes, i saw what Laar was referring to.
there is a not so slight gap here is what i was hinting to.

But we don't care about that gap :).

then the smaller gap shouldn't be an issue.

If you want a full blue belt from that setup then you need to be merging two of those belts anyway. Once you do that then as Impetus maximus says, that tiny gap is irrelevant.

The large gap has a simple explanation, the rotation of the stack inserter.
The small gap pointed out by OP doesn't have an explanation.
