Can't play, game crash 15.33

I have no mods, no saved games... well, I wouldn't be able to get to them anyway. I haven't been able to play now for a couple of weeks. I have a MacBook Pro with the latest install of Sierra.

The game used to run just fine then all of a sudden it now crashes when it says "Cropping bitmaps" at about 40% of the game load.

Any help would be appreciated.

How much VRAM does your GT 330M have?
Try using minimum graphics settings by editing the config file.
You could try to run the game on your intel graphics solution and see if that works.

The nvidia board has 512 MB of VRAM. Again, the game was working fine until I upgraded my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. All of my applications are running so much better now.

I have not been able to find the config file for this game. I know how to find it in Windows, but I can't find it on the Mac. I found a folder called Factorio that has a .lock, crop-cache.dat and factorio-current.log file. Then it has the saves folder.

Under Steam/steamapps/common/Factorio, there is just the Factorio application. I don't know how to force one graphics controller to work over the other outside of modifying the config (wherever that is). I did follow some steps that would supposedly force the Nvidia to work in the power savings settings on the Mac. I'm a little new to Mac, but I can google pretty good. ;-)

Can you tell me where the config file is?

====

Edit: I found that the config file is supposed to be located here:
~/Library/Application Support/factorio/config

But that has never been created I presume. I had completely removed Steam and Factorio from my Mac and reinstalled both. So apparently, I haven't even gotten to the place where a config file is created. I suppose if someone could paste the default config file contents and the name, I could create it myself and see what happens.

Because I'm getting no replies from the developers, is there a place where I can get support or is this the only option?

I am sorry about that.
Open Factorio properties in Steam Library and set launch option to

Code: Select all

--max-texture-size=4096 --video-memory-usage=medium
if that doesn't fix the problem, set it to

Code: Select all

--gfx-safe-mode
The reason why it started to happen after you updated your RAM is because the game chooses different graphics defaults when detecting 4GB RAM or less.

posila,

Thank you so very much!!! The first option did the trick... and yes, that makes complete sense as to why it was occurring. I wasn't willing to put the other memory in just to see if it would work as it would be a hassle. Plus all my other applications work SO much better with 8 GB.

Thanks again!
