[request] Realistic Trains & Rail System

I've seen a couple of train mods here, but they are more like a combination between the things we already have in Factorio and the trains. As a rail enthusiast, I would like to see something that's focused more on a realistic train system.

So far, there's only one locomotive and one car that is used for everything, and I would like a bigger variety of models. There are at least 6 major cargo wagon types, used for different things. Having only one type for everything is a little wrong, even though it is the one that can be used for most stuff.
Also, realistic signals. Factorio has only 2 signals (from what I've seen) and I would like something more complex, especially in the stations, where there are a billion signals just to tell the engineer to stop. (because the real stuff always has to be very complex, right?) So yeah, basically something that would make it even harder to set up for the ones who don't know how trains work (that will most probably not use the advanced set), but easier for the ones who do. (pretty much the people who would install a mod like this)

Now, I would do it myself but I don't think I am able too. So, if anyone would like to help me make this something real (or better said be helped by me) please let me know. Trains are an important part of today's world and rail modelling is one of the biggest hobbies, so I don't see why Factorio wouldn't have a realistic train mod just as Minecraft does.

A few things: we have already a few people that are working with trains expansion. They are not realistic, as it's not possible to mod anything in Factorio as it's possible in Minecraft, since they are different games. They add electric trains, better cargo wagons, faster/armored locomotives, logistic/combat wagons and stuff.

Now, to add more complex Rail Signals we'd need better modding interfaces, which we don't, like being able to change the receive events from when a train passes by, or change the state of a signal. As it is right now, I don't think this issue can be tackled with current resources.

It'd would be nice, but we always need more and more and better modding interfaces
