When you start constructing with robots then when the yellow notification.
It says something like this:

Nauvis:
And then the ammount of items that are missing.

I tried googling the word for the definition or meaning. But that did not the trick for me.
How ever i found a mod(https://mods.factorio.com/mods/ljdp/TheLongNauvis) that is using the same word, but that did not solve my quest for my awnser.

So what means Nauvis?

It's the name of the world you're on. I believe the literal translation is "New".

I've lost track of where I first heard it; internally, when you get an alert it includes the name of the game surface that the alert is being triggered on, and the main surface is (apparently) named after the planet. Presumably, your character decided they needed something to call the planet they were on since it didn't have an official registry-of-astronomical-bodies name.

I don't think so; I think that until recently it probably wasn't ever shown in the UI at all and it was only apparent if you were writing mods that interact with surfaces. So I think it's just the developers' own name for it.

As far as I know "Nauvis" is the name of the primary game surface, and has never been expressed officially by the devs as the canonical name of the planet we're on.

But that all doesn't still explain, what "Nauvis" means. :)

So, nauvis is Latin for ship, in the genitive case. Why the character/devs named the alert/planet that is beyond me.

Navis without the u is Latin for ship, and it's not distinctly genitive. The lack of u makes it more doubtful that this specific meaning is the developer's intention. It is reminiscent of navis (it is the resting place of the ship), nauticus (the Chracter is essentially a space sailor), and nativus (it is the birthplace of the Factory).
