All text missing or scrambled on 32bit Linux demo

I've been trying to play the demo but all of the buttons on the main menu are either blank or have 3 or 4 letters showing. I made it into actual gameplay by guessing buttons and a blank orange speech bubble appeared over my character that I couldn't remove and froze the game.

I've been burned before on games that touted "linux compatible" so I want to make sure the demo will work before I commit cash.

Have you read the FAQ about graphic problems? Tried to turn to lowres-mode?

This sounds a lot like this bug: https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... f=7&t=1991 . Do you have intel graphics card by any chance? The bug isn't fully solved yet, but we have a workaround (described on the final page of the bug report thread).
So if you feel like it, you can download the experimental version of demo and try if the workaround works for you.

I've tried the low-res workaround, that didn't help. My graphics card is ATi/AMD but I'll try the experimental anyway.

New update to ubuntu and the game is working excellently. I'll be picking this up next week when I can pay for the full version.
