Alternative fuel

Hi,
I have a building in my NE Buildings mod, Terraforming Station, that reduces the evolution per scan (Acts like a radar).
Since this is very OP, I made it use a lot of electricity.
I want to go a step further and have it also burn/use up an alien artifact per scan. (Alien Artifact -A.A. are in the mod)
I wad thinking if two options to do this,
This can be done either through using the A.A. as a fuel or ammo.
I think the ammo option would be easier, per scan, look if there are any A.A. in the chest and deduct one and reduce the evo, else don't reduce. This would mean that it would still use electricity...
Not entirely sure how the fuel option would work, since it would have to be a custom fuel only used by this.
I'd appreciate some help implementing either option.
Use up A.A. as an additional requirement before deducting the evolution, but not work if no A.A. are prevent.
