First time doing robot logistics!

I am a veteran of Factorio but I have spent very little time in the endgame segment. Initially it did not interest me, but now as I have a better understanding of circuit networks and robot logistic systems, and with the new science packs that 0.15 brought, my interest has been re-kindled! I also am much better at building factories that can handle the large amounts of throughput necessary for producing expensive items such as high-tech science packs.
I found a cool spot to make an outpost. It has a nice large iron patch right next to water, with enough coal nearby, and oil patch in close proximity, and a decent-sized copper patch not too far away. I got a very lousy setup running on a different outpost for production and high-tech science packs, and I barely scraped up enough high-techs to research logistic system, but as I was building the wall on my new outpost, it made me think this would be a good time to work with robot logistics for the first time. Instead of making major changes to an existing base, I could setup the base to use robot logistics from the get-go. I think this could revolutionize a few things, most importantly perhaps wall defense! I'm going to try making a series of turret clusters separated with big electric poles and requester chests, as opposed to my older method of placing 1-2 turrets per medium electric pole and putting a cumbersome feeder belt wrapping all the way around the base. I then plan to build the base using blueprints and construction robots as much as possible. I had been using roboports more recently, but I just placed them in existing bases with a few wall supplies and construction robots so that I didn't have to come repair the wall after attacks. Now I'm diving in deeper!
I won't be seeking advice just yet because I want to stumble through this on my own, but I wanted to share this experience with you guys. I'm sure several of you veteran players can remember back to the first time you got acquainted with robots, and the excitement of revolutionizing your logistic systems. So I'd like you guys to regale me with tales of your first times (and struggles) using robots, blueprints, circuit networks, automated railways, and any other of the more complex parts of Factorio. I look forward to hearing your stories!
