Both are input/output balanced:
Yellow belts, almost inline,
12x9.

Red/blue belts, inline [yay!],
10x8.

I have not yet seen a smaller 8-8 inline design than this red/blue one, so figured that I should share mine.
The space saved by using the longer underneathies in v0.15 is noticeable. Thanks devs.
<edit> Blueprints:

Mine is one space taller, but my OCD wants symetrical splitters... I'll use yours in my 16 (and higher) fractional balancer, nice design

Blueprint strings would be good.
Replicating those by hand will be error prone

Totally forgot to add them.
Added them to the first post.
@lovely_santa: I feel your pain... Please post your 16-16 when it is ready, I would love to see it.

My old inline balancer is 11x8 and works with yellow belts:

Oh, that is clever. How did I miss that one when I looked through your balancer compendium thread?
[The ones In your thread are mostly not inline, & it has a different 8-8 that is shorter but sticks out on one side].

Ooh, nice design! Always nice to save some space on 8-belt balancing.
Have you determined whether it's throughput-unlimited?

Thanks. It is not throughput unlimited, no. Would need to marry two of them back-to-back [same as most other balancers].
The worst case throughput should be 50%.
You can often avoid requiring unlimited balancers by staggering or interleaving your in/out belts, so output belts going to the same destination are not all drawn from the same few output splitters.

Mm, all right. For throughput-unlimited applications, I'll stick to the design I'm using now, as it's smaller than two of these in that case. Always good to know the properties of designs before using them. =P

Ooh, that's a good point—intuitively a lot of the throughput-limited configurations end up being on consecutive belts... Thanks!

Made another improvement Red/Blue compatible, 10x8, and about as light as I can make it
