How to set_tiles without correction glitches?

When I copy the tiles from one chunk over another chunk, I have the option to run tile correction or not. If I don't run it then I don't get any tile transitions and it looks terrible. If I do run correction then some tiles at the edge of the chunk that I copied might get "corrected" in an undesirable fashion, such as deep water converting to shallow water because it's adjacent to land.
Is there a straightforward way to avoid this and get a copy that looks the same as the source?
