Train station misalignment - bug or feature?

I was trying to change direction of my station and factorio surprised me. I couldn't build the station in that way all previously placed inserters reaches a wagon.

I made an ilustration:

and:

The middle station is in arbitrary position, two others are in opposite direction in two closest configurations.

We can't change direction of station easily, we can make two simple way station (for example by using two train stops with the same name).

So my question is: is this a bug (it would be strange, train aliment was redone and greatly improved not long ago), intentional feature, or little oversight not worth fixing?

Each locomotive/wagon is 6 tiles long, but they have a 1 tile space between them. Because stations can only be placed on the 2x2 rail grid, not the 1x1 tile grid, this means that two stations have to be an even number of wagon-lengths apart in order to produce the same spacing as one longer train.

If you have L-C trains or L-CCC trains, it's possible to build two-way stations; but with L-CC or L-CCCC trains, it is not.
