Hi all,

Just curious if editing a map and then using said map for a new campaign would disable achievements or not.

If doing so would disable achievements, I kindly ask anyone for a great map string for a starting area with a pretty much everything on very high with biters at the lowest setting possible.

Thanks,

Yes, using the map editor disables achievements.

To get a favorable map just set the frequency of the ores/oil to very low and the size and richness to very big/good. Set the enemy bases to very low frequency and very small size.
You maybe have to restart the map a few times (Esc --> Restart) but at some point you'll get a seed where all ores and maybe oil are abundant, if it's only oil that is missing don't worry, there's usually a big patch not far away from the starting area.

You can use the map editor to get a better picture of what the map settings do. After you generate a map in the editor you can scroll around to view a larger area so you know what to expect. Think of it as completely safe exploration as you can scroll way past the starting area and see the full layout of the map as far as you want. If you don't like it, then regenerate it, rinse and repeat until you find the settings you like. Then go back to start a free play session using those settings (I'm pretty sure they transfer automatically).

If you think the settings are mostly there but not exactly the way you want then try using a different seed value. I use the seed as the last setting I tweak.

Viola! You have a good map and you know a bit more about the area than you can actually see in the free play due to the fog of war
