Filter on furnace input

Furnaces seem to melt any iron ore, copper ore, stones and steel plates they receive.
But sometimes you want them to only melt a specific item (like only iron ore).
I know you can provide only that item by transport belts, but there are case where you want to have a single belt with iron and copper ores and having different furnaces for different items.

So my suggestion is simple to make input slot filterable (as in inventory).

Same thing could be applied to fuel input as well.

Well, you can use smart inserters with filters set to whatever ores you want to smelt in the furnace. Of course, you are out of luck if you want to use long-handed inserters.

This would be a nice feature to have, but it's use would probably be fairly limited.

Maybe for electric furnace, but the standard and steel one are supposed to be fairly low tech thing, that use whatever is feed inside.

It would make very little sense to duplicate functionality that's already available. What's the difference between using a filtered furnace and a regular furnace fed by a smart inserter with the same filter?

Exactly. Use smart inserters.

shared coal+ore is not a problem, simply put in "Coal, IronOre" filter :P

There are no smart long-handed inserters.

That's true. It makes more sense to request those. :)
