Do the game settings affect biter base expansion?

I can see that the game settings for frequency and size affect biter bases on world generation - there's more or less bases when I first encounter enemy bases in a game. However, it's unclear if those settings affect the size and distance between biter bases, when the game has been running for a long time. i.e. After the aliens have had some time to expand. The wiki says they expand between 3 - 7 chunks distance, but it does not say if that's affected by the game settings, or if it's just random.

I believe they do not currently. I've noticed that the expansions are always about the same size and occur at the same frequency (which increases with evolution factor).
