In the GUI, there would be a small text box that could let you change the name of the item. When you do change it, the name would hover above it when it is moused back over. So maybe label a chest Waste, or name an Assembler after what it makes. In fact, what if all assemblers were named what they make: Assembler (Gear).

I like that. I would add a list, where all those named stuff can be found. If I hover it, the GUI draws a line to that chest/whatever.

I've thought about something like that myself. Too often I end up putting my automatic factory inputs to the wrong chest and clog up everything. Having a name on the chest would remove most such errors.
