Link game I bought from GoG

Hello. I just bought the game from GoG. As soon as I booted up the game it asked me for a username and password for automatic updates. I tried my GoG credentials but no dice. Some Googling implied that I needed to link my GoG game to a Factorio.com account... unfortunately there only appears to be an option for linking the Steam version. So... my question is, should I return the version I bought from GoG and buy directly from this site? Or is there a way to link my GoG version? Because I definitely want the updates. Thanks.
