Basically have a research for a land surveyor robot that will fly out in whatever direction you tell it while placing an item transport system. Once it finds a resource node it will then plant itself on it an will become a electrical mine and will notify you that it has set itself up/have it have a solar panel or energy reserve so it is 100% self sustaining. Would make finding resource pockets easy if you tapped out all of them around you.

Another idea is that you can get a different robot that you tell it an area to copy and it will replicate it where you tell it to. This would make expanding a ore processing plant very easy.
