Starting off a new base (Scenario map)

Hello folks,
I will be showing you screenshots of my base as I progress through it. Any tips or ideas are appreciated because I always just build my base randomly and hope something good comes out.
The scenario can be found on this forum and is not made by me, although I adjusted it so that the ores have about an amount of 5000000
Kind regards, Niels

I dont understand the reasoning behind last picture. You are trying to separate identical lines, which really is pointless.
Do you intend to send copper as well on that belt? Or will you make another smelting complex for copper?
Regardless if you want to split belt in half and then send these halves on one side of the belt it could be done in less hacky way:
P.S. If you are still in set up phase I would recommend you to place ore fields further apart. When you will eventually ramp up the production you will be forced to use robots in your current map due to small amount of space making belt lines hard to place.

Well the problem with your splitting mechanism is that you will first get the ores from one side of that belt and when they run out the other side fills it, which occasionaly will stop your miners. What I have done will take from both sides at the same time, although I am sure that could be done in a far more easy way

Actually no: if you have noticed each side of the mechanism actually favors the opposite line of the original belt.
Here is the preferred lines shown:
Where blue and green are "preferred" lines, and red being lagging lines.
If you have problems with one side getting stuck, and other being empty you can use "reshuffler"

Ah didn't think of it that way! Since I have to start over because of a few bugs in the scenario map, I'll implement that!

Here's my basic smeltery system:
It is easy to start building right from the start, and will work pretty well until late game. It also uses same 1 line concept for ore smelting in order to remove dedicated coal line. This works fairly well as I only need 1 inserter for fuel and ore.
The buffer for ore, as well as reshufflers for metal ensure that smeltery accepts and returns even supply of material on both lines of the belt.

It looks pretty well, although I like to have 2 outputs because of the factories I will make later on.

It's nice to play yes, but there need to be a few adjustments in my opinion, but that's just me...
-Biters don't really behave like they should
-Ores should have a greater amount
You could do 2 versions in one where the ores are so great in amount that you only need to expand if you need more at the same time, and one challenging version in which you expand because they deplete.
