I have tried the basic Steam install and ALL beta releases, they ALL stall between 2% and 10%, with "Error while loading entity prototype" different error for each install.
EG:
no beta
0.13.15 beta

Does not run long enough to generate a '.log' file.

My 0.11.22 direct download works fine.

My system is a Homebrew: AMD Phenom X4 965 3.4GHz, 16Gb RAM, 64-bit Windows 7, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570, OCZ-VERTEX2 240gGb SSD.

You have old versions of some mods installed, delete the %appdata%/Factorio/mods folder

This is a fresh install direct through steam with no MOD folder or mods.

Ah I deleted the empty MOD folder and it ran ? ? ?

Whether it is a fresh install or not, mods are stored in a different folder than the game itself, so a reinstall/fresh install does not remove old mods. The folder must've not been empty.
