Hi,

On the second mission in the first campaign, I built a burner mining drill on top of the stone. If left alone, it produces stone, however, when I place burner inserter next to it, the inserter puts coal into the chest instead of stone. If the chest is next to the drill, it produces stone all right. The other inserters seem to work fine.

If I understand your description, it works as designed. Unlike furnaces and assembling machines, mining drills don't create items into their inventory, rather they drop it at a designated spot. If you use an inserter to pick up directly from the drill it will pick up coal because that's the only thing in its inventory.

Usually either a chest or belt is placed in the drill drop point.

I suggest you describe small setups by pictures instead of saves.
