[13.x] Changing screen name for matchmaking?

Is there a way to change the name used for online multiplayer on the matchmaking server?
When I first bought the game, I registered using my secret steam login name, which I do not wish to reveal to other players (a) for obvious security reasons and (b) because no one will recognize it.
I can't log in with any other name due to "Authentication error on the auth server (Steam ID already paired with another user)" and there doesn't seem to be any way to unpair it.
