Punished for lowering difficulty!

I have lost count of how many times I have started a new game. Being confronted with technological frontiers I am greatly unfamiliar with, I lose control of my base, both is keeping up with supply:demand as well as future planning.

This time around I thought, "Well you know what, you deserve an easier beginning, for all your hard work defending yourself against the biters when you had no idea of where you came or where you were going, you deserve at least some bigger raw material deposits."

Factorio thinks otherwise.

Well it is easier... You cannot be eaten by biters anymore :D

Yeah, screw the colonists, you can stay there, and live off the tree and fishes.

Not much of a game, but at least you don't die from being bitten by creatures multiple times your size.

It is beter to quickly find out that you will have to restart the game than to spend about and hour of seting up your base nicely just to realize that you spawned on a large island and you have nowhere else to go. And yes the size of that large island is the size of starting area which was spawned in the middle of the ocean biome (already reported in bug section and on developers to-do list for fixing)

Well, if your island has enough resources, you could envision installing a mod (from the MoMods thread) that adds a "boat".
It also permits to walk on the light blue water, usually allowing you to get to the ground with the starting pocket islands, but makes it harder to defend against bitters, as water no longer acts as a natural wall.
