I recently installed Windows again and so Factorio.
I've got both, Steam version and the standalone ZIP version of the game.

While setting up the Steam version of Factorio I encountered an error as I wanted to load my main save:
Loading the save in the Steam version...

Then I moved the save files into the saves directory of the standalone version:
Loading the save in the standalone version...

As you can see, the Steam version throws an error while the standalone version loads the save normally.

The savegame loads for me fine on both Steam and standalone.
Have you verified the game cache on Steam?

If that doesn't work then uninstall the game on steam, delete the contents of Steam\SteamApps\common\Factorio and install the game again.

Ok, it works now.
I had to reinstall Factorio.
