I looked, but couldn't find any mention of it.

All the base game technology icons have been replaced with these shiney new 128x128 icon graphics. So, I decided to create a new 128x128 icon for my new technology.
However, when I get in game, the icon is cropped to the top left 64x64, and that's how it apears as the medium sized icon in the lists, and resized up to fill the display box on the right top when the technology is selected.

am I doing it wrong, or is this a bug?

If you are using 128x128 pixel icons you need to add icon_size = 128 to the technology prototype.

The fact that the default is different for each is... confusing.

they were probably trying to be nice to modders who had 64x64 icons but no time to update them. rather than ruin the appearance of their mods...

no, I understand that, I just think a "cleaner" fix would have been to leave the default at 64, but then add icon_size=128 to all the base game technologies, that way you'd be able to tell by looking at the code that you'd need that tag.

Since it was a minor release version anyway, then they can change the default to 128 on a major update, like 0.13.

come to think of it though, now that I know the solution, I do seem to recall someone mentioning an icon_size tag months ago when it was first added.
