Changing Research

I think I am backed in to a corner I need Science Pack 3 to discover what I am researching however I do not have the technology to make Science Pack 3. Is there a way to change what I am researching or am I hooped?

Just open research menu and start a new research.

When changing research keep in mind all progress on current research is lost. Game stores progress in a single variable instead of in a table where each tech has its own status.
