I want to deliver stuff over a very long distance with two double faced trains over a long straight track.
The first one reaching one of the many (or one) junction / waiting / passing lines trails should wait for the opposing train to pass - is there a robust solution with minimum signals to place?

chain signal when entering the 2-way line and normal signal when leaving the 2 way line both on the single direction track. You should not need any signals on the actual 2-way line unless you have a crossing. If so then always use double chain signals.

If you want to decrease waiting time you can add passing points where there are short double tracks where a train can wait for the other one to pass.

Actually its normal signal on enter and chain signal on exit.

depends on what is entering and what is exiting. Entering the 2-way single track needs a chain and exiting the 2-way single track needs a normal signal.

Entering the double 1-way tracks needs a normal signal and exiting the double 1-way tracks needs a chain

I was referring to the setup of the passing point. On the actual single 2-way rail section i only use chain signals never normal signals. The reason behind is this decision is that i dont want a train entering a choke point if there is no guarantee that it can clear the choke point.
