Building in Straight Lines

I often find myself having to limit how fast I build because aligning stuff, specially small stuff while zoomed out is quite hard. If there was a way to lock the axis where you are building on (only horizontally, only vertically, etc.) this would be solved, as you could easily zoom out, and drag your mouse in the direction you want to build and be sure all would be aligned.
This would be specially useful for placing big power poles or roboports.
Here's my idea on how this could be implemented:
To make it easier I'll assume the hotkey for this is ALT.
So if you want to build straight you would:
Hold ALT + click and hold the build button and drag the mouse in the direction you want
Also, defining a spacing could be easily done too:
Hold ALT + click and release to place the first building + move the mouse so you get the desired spacing + click and hold the build button and drag the mouse in the direction you want.
In my opinion this would be pretty intuitive.
