Unexpected error on start up, and can't find log file

Pretty much the title- just brought the game through steam but whenever I try to start it it says "unexpected error has prevented the game from starting; find the log file" or words to that affect.
Only trouble is that I can't find the log file. I've tried the directions here: https://wiki.factorio.com/index.php?tit ... _directory but those links do not work for me (as in there isn't a factorio file in appdata/roaming - which is strange because other games show up there). When I go to the local games files from steam, it takes me to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Factorio" but there's nothing there that says log file. I've even tried doing a factorio search in my computer, but I couldn't see anything other than the ones returned from steam.
Any ideas?
Edit: typical, managed to fix this 5 mins after I posted. Created a new user account on my computer, forced steam to change its directory to the new user account appdata/roaming folder, downloaded factorio in the new account and hey presto it worked. No idea why, or why factorio in particular needed this roundabout approach, but no issues now.
