With the signals set the train moves according to the book / but with the keyboard code W or other it won't move a bit and i'm getting a "No Path" error - what I'm doing wrong?

It looks like you have no train stop on this small loop. Did you set the schedule to run to a train stop on a different network?
Edit: If you want to manually drive the train you have to stop it. You can't manually drive a train that is set to run on an automatic schedule. Use the button with the two vertical lines (I think it's supposed to be a "pause" symbol) to stop the automatic schedule.

No - I just have set up this single loop for trial and try to get the train moving - the auto schedule is disabled.

The "No path" means the train is trying to run an automatic schedule. See my edit.
You have to stop the automatic run.

Which keyboard code is working for you?

Driving the train should be similar to driving the car - you have to be in the locomotive (press Enter while near enough to get inside, press Enter again to exit). 'w' should accelerate, 's' should decelerate/move backwards. 'a' and 'd' should choose between left and right turns in a fork/junction.

Thats exactly what I do - it seems to be a bug in the Mac version

You press w and the locomotive doesn't move? It takes time to accelerate, so you have to hold w for a few seconds...
Command return! ash on my head!
