As far as I know, I set the world to have normal sized nests when I created it, and I don't think any of my mods increase nest size.

I have the following mods:
-air filtering
-bridge railway
-electricity xyle
-reverse factory
-rotatable pipes
-underground mining


I have also found several other nests of unusually big sizes. There are only 2 that I have found that seem to have a normal size.

Things are looking grim.

Maybe I did unknowingly set the nest sizes in the world to large...

You can check it by getting the map exchange string on the load/save menu, and trying to generate a new game with it.

Yeah I would you might have accidentally set the Biter settings higher when making the map. Those definitely are too big for default settings that early into the game. :/
You can double check though as Koub suggested.

Lol, yep. It looks like I did that by mistake when I was increasing the size of ore deposits.

Well you've also increased the size of alien artifacts deposits
