Hello,

I bought the game Factorio today on Steam and after installing it I was not able to launch the game. I have tried multipule things like re-installing it, try to instal it on different harddrives and also by using the ''Set launch option'' to see if that'd work.

I will full off say that I myself am quite the dummy when it comes to computers and such but I have been searching for a solution for the last couple hours and am starting to give up.

First of all once I installed the game and the error popped up it told me to post the log file on the forums here, however I cannot find the log file. I even asked a friend of mine who also has Factorio to show me where his log files are. But for some magic reason I have non, or did I miss something? I also tried looking into my ''%appdata%'' but could not find a folder for Factorio or anything related to that game. I updated my Windows since I have not done that in a while, thought that might've been the issue but it wasn't. Also restarted my PC but that did not work either. Launching the game as administator also did nothhing at all.

So I am quite annoyed I did not get to play the game once today. I am quite sure there's a way to fix the issue I am having but i'm just to blind to see it.

If you have had a simular problem or just know how to fix it I would be forever greatful.

There might be some information I am forgetting but I will reply to you if asked.

Can you please do the following :
1) go in the explorer in the %APPDATA%\Factorio folder
2) show us what you have in here.

Also what could help is :
In your Steam library, right-click on Factorio, then :
1) Properties
2) Local files
3) Browse local files
4) Here, you have a config-path.ini

Can you copy-paste its content here ?

Here's what was in the config_path:

config-path=__PATH__system-write-data__/config

#This value specifies the way the aplication generates default values for path.read-data and path.write-data
#When set to true, it will use system directories (Users/Name/AppData/Roaming/Factorio on windows), this is set to true
#for the installer versions of Factorio, as people will usualy install it in program files, and the aplication can't write
#to program files by default (without UAC turned off), similar with osx/linux packages.
#When set to false (default value for zip package), it will use application root directory, this is usable to create self-sustainable
#Factorio directory that can be copied anywhere needed (on usb etc), also for people, who don't like to manipulate saves

In my %appdata% I have no folder called Factorio, I don't know why.

Weird. Maybe something went wrong on Steam. Can you check your local cache ?
In your Steam library :
Right-click on Factorio > Properties > Local files > verify integrity of game cache (last of four buttons).
Then, try to start the game again.

Hijacking thread, same exact problem as OP, everything is the same. Verifying integrity doesn't fix the problem.

Couldn't you just run Factorio in a terminal to see what's up?

(been a while since I've last used Windows, but should be something like win+R, cmd, cd into wherever factorio.exe is located, run factorio, look at output)

Edit: turns out the Steam version only ever prints the line "0.000 Initializing Steam API." even if it's working fine, so don't bother, this is only useful with the DRM-free version.

I see you're on Windows 7. Do you have the SP1 ? can you post your PC specs ?

Same error and issues here too here are specs and terminal just says "0.000 Initializing Steam API." then it gives the error

The problems you describe in this topic seem very similar those of another topic.
Could you please follow the steps described on this post : viewtopic.php?p=133301#p133301 ?
Maybe it could help the devs to figure out what's going on.
