[0.12.25][Steam] GPU failure at ~2hr30min

alpha Version 0.12.25 (Build 17747, win64)

Recently purchased Factorio via Steam and am generally having a blast, until 150 minutes into the game.

While playing through new Hope, level 2, at about the 2hr30min I get a popup informing me the "Steam Overlay crashed".

The popup asks me to set "force-opengl=true" in the config file (did this).
The forum threads recommend I lower the graphics qualtiy (did this to "low").

I restarted the game from the beginning of the level and again, at about the 2hr30min mark, i get the same popup.

I've archived off the last 3 saved games from both occurances, but they are all now unloadable as they immediately give me the same popup.

If there's anything else I can do, I'd be happy to do it so I can continue on in the campaign.

 235.438 Error Util.cpp:77: GPU monitoring software like MSI Afterburner or EVGA PrecisionX is interfering with Factorio and the game crashed. Shutting down such software or configuring it to not detect Factorio may prevent this kind of crash.
Alternatively you can try to set force-opengl=true in Factorio's config file or use launch option --force-opengl.

I'm having exactly the same problem, going to try to finish the level without saving or loading again I guess. A fix would be great. uploaded the log if it helps.

There was a bug making saves for New Hope 2 unplayable which was fixed for 0.12.26, but you need to restart that level on 0.12.26 for it to work.

It looks like Steam updated to 0.1.26, so I'll retry again later, I'm getting very good at New Hope 2.

Do I need to keep the low quality graphics settings and force-opengl=true settings?

You don't need to keep changed settings. The message wasn't supposed to show up for different kind of crash, but there was a bug in error reporting system.

Bug in 0.12.25 corrupted saves for this particular level, so you will have to start it again :(

Reset to default graphic settings.

Restarted New Hope level 2 (5th time)

Successfully completed New Hope level 2 (5 hrs later), which included one unplanned death/reload.

I'd consider this one closed.
