Mismatched Client/Server Versions

Hi everyone,

So my friend and I have been playing on a Creeper Host server he rented. Today there was an update on Steam to 0.12.25 and the server is running 0.12.24. As you can probably guess we're getting the version mismatch error when joining. Now my problem is the Creeper Host panel tech is out for a few days, so at the moment we're stuck.

Here is what the Creeper Host tech support guy told me...
If you wish you can follow the steps at https://wiki.factorio.com/index.php?tit ... ayer#Linux to replace your current server files with the update (except for the save file) and you should then be able to run it normally from the panel.

Otherwise it will be a few days until our panel tech gets back and updates the installer for it.
Now I'm going to try what he suggested, but at the moment my internet is acting really slow so its taking quite a while just to download it onto my computer. I'm worried about the uploading it back to Creeper Host taking even longer...

I'm open to any suggestions on things I can do for this issue or things I can do to prevent it in the future besides waiting for the panel tech...

One thing I'd like to suggest and I may shoot this at the suggestion section is... I know that there is some sort of control developers have over what update Steam updates our games to through the beta system. It might be nice if we're given a beta code that rolls back one update or something like that. Or maybe instead of deleting old versions they're moved into a file we can use.

Anyway thanks in advance for any replies.

I actually have a question I'd like to add to this.

My friend just loaded our old save and when he tried to save it gave him an error saying replay saving disabled map saved with version 12.24.

Do we all lose our saves when the game is updated??

You already have access to older versions (back to 0.12.22) on Steam.
Right click on Factorio in the Steam library, select Properties, then go to the Betas tab and select the version you want to install.

No, saves are kept and compatible, even with major updates, like 0.12 --> 0.13 is going to be.

The message only states that it is not possible to replay the save. Usually you can replay (watch) the save from the beginning to the end of the save by going to Play --> Replay game. This is not possible when the version or mods change during the save.

That is weird. I went in there like a half hour ago and there wasn't any other options. Well thanks for telling me I wouldn't have checked it again.

Okay thanks again for the additional info.

We decided just to wait for the tech to sort out the server update.
