set desired content / filter for storage chests?

I would like to optimize production by making sure goods are stored near where they will be used. For logistics, I would like to have e.g. an (or multiple) "iron storage area", where only iron plates are stored, which are then available on the logistics network.

Is there a possibility to set a storage chest filter?

I can think of two ways:

1) Use middle click to lock each tile. This requires 48 clicks for each item type (assuming that this can be copied, otherwise per chest), which doesn't sound very fun
2) Use a requester chest feeding into a passive storage chest. This requires 3 tiles for each chest, which doesn't sound very efficient

1. no
2. no, the two chests will make an infinite loop

3. request iron ore and smelt it in place

You could just fill an active provider chest with iron plates, which then get's transported to a storage chest. Now just use an inserter to feed everything inside that storage chest to a passive provider chest and that's basically it.

Of course, this only works with one item per system. When you have multiple storage boxes the bots will put it in any one of those, so the solution is not perfect. But if you just have one storage area, it should suffice.

The logistic bots try to fill the items only in storage chests which already have the same item in it.

You can do try following (never tried):
- reduce the stack-limit by one
- put the wanted item into that remaining stack

Dunno, if that works. The whole system of stack filters is a high-prio request:
