I love buffers

I know there are pro and cons for buffers out there, but i thought i share some of my the Iteration i did for designing a buffer System.

I was aiming for a buffer that distributes the items equally on the different rows and can output the items evenly and with the highest compression.

As this is stackable, any chance you could provide a blueprint string? (Using this mod https://forums.factorio.com/forum/vie ... =14&t=6742)

This is one Stack of the Buffer with the Foreman BP Manager
Foreman String

I think that this belongs on the "show your creations" board.

It is in "Show your creations" but also in "fan art", interesting since I actually posted it in "show your creations"

Ssilk moved it to the new "fan art" board but kept a link to it in the "Show your creations" board.
I would put this in the "Show your creations" board as it is actual game footage, but now you're present in both boards :)

Oh.
I thought it is kind of art, cause after studying the layouts I thought to myself, this is pointless (*), so it must be art. Sorry for that....

(*) not directly pointless, but it is not very effective, it takes a lot of space, is complex, and the usage cases are questionable. Sorry for being honest, but I'm sure you can handle with it. :) To prove the opposite: I never would have made me the work to move the topic to the other forum, if I didn't like them. For me it is simply some kind of art.

It's overly complex and needlessly big for something 12 boxes, 24 inserters and a belt blancer could do :D But that wouldn't be pleasing to the eye and awesome ;)
(plus where is the fun?)
Also it's interesting to tinker around with the ratios needed to fill up the belts to max compression and the flaws in the factorio engine.

For example, why does this design have one sided "compression errors", although it is the same on the top and the bottom? :P

And another one, with the compressor on the side

Damn son. Do the different buffers have any sort of different function? Why use one of them over the other. Also It seems like a 2x -> x buffer would be more useful then a x -> x buffer.

It's more or less just stile, I do use the one from the first post as an overflow buffer for my ores, cause i do Play with endless rescources in my current game and i want my drills to never stop mining, even if there is no demand from the factory.

This is what i use for my buffer in my main factory. Its not cool and complex like yours but it balances the lanes fairly well and it holds a buttload of storage.

Not art.

It's because of the awkward way splitters handle compressed belts with the same thing on both lanes, it'll be fixed in 0.13.

Its only mirrored twice and fit together, but here is one with 16 lanes in and 8 out. Just for shits and giggles

It's the mother of all buffers:

There was a defect in the mother buffer (missing belts, inverted inserters), so I made another one which is a tad smaller and stackable:
